In support of mbira makers in Zimbabwe we hope to be a resource for connecting and promoting traditional work.
The mbira instrument is the voice of the ancestors and music of the people of Zimbabwe. Mbira can be considered a pitched percussion instrument and has a beautiful vast repertoire of ancient songs and some recent songs as well.
The deze is made of giant dried out gourds or fiberglass molds that amplify the sound of mbira and creates more buzzing sound with the shells or bottle caps most commonly used.
Bridging and cultivating the connection of musicians from across the globe is a joy and priority.
Each mbira is handmade with a unique sound and feel that has the touch of each maker. The instrument can offer healing and involves a buzzing, rattling component that responds to the beautiful sounds created by the metal keys and wooden soundboard.
